Basketball Shoes to Help You Jump Higher

2 February 2011 5 Comments

So I’ve been doing research on basketball shoes to help you jump higher, and I’ve been quite surprised at what I’ve found. Not only are there quite a few options out there, I’ve learned a lot about basketball shoes and how you can jump higher with the right ones.

Some of this research you will find is very scientific, some not so much. But either way, it is for the case of jumping higher.

First is the new buzz on the internet about the new APL Concept 1 shoes. These shoes have claimed to immediately help you jump higher up to 3.5 inches for the “average athlete” and they’ve seen “elite athlete” gain 8 inches. But the real reason for all of this buzz is the fact that they have been banned by the NBA, which is great for publicity.

But here’s a 7 minute video about the shoes and what Chris found with them.

Like he said, the downside is that they cost $300, and the obvious question is: Is 3 inches worth it?

I won’t lie, I am skeptical. The “Load and Launch” technology sounds crazy but I might end up buying a pair in a few months just to try them out, but I won’t lie, I have some personal research that also makes me skeptical.

When I was in high school, like most high school basketball teams, we bought team shoes form Eastbay. And usually these shoes looked great in the catalog, the team captain picked out what he liked, and everyone else was stuck with them. The problem: the shoes rarely fit well, rarely lasted the entire season, and never built the team up past the first couple weeks of practice. Except when the shoes fit.

One year, we actually picked up these pairs of basketball shoes that made me feel like I could jump higher. Honestly, the shoes were heavy and probably did the opposite if I had done hard research. But what really happened? I could jump higher, grab rim better and actually grab more rebounds and make more shots.

Because I felt like I could. And that is all we needed. The feeling to be able to. Just imagining that you can has been scientifically proven to allow you to do something that you couldn’t previously. And that seems to work. And that is what I feel that these $300 shoes will do.

Basketball Shoes to ACTUALLY Help You Jump Higher

Now let’s get down to the details. And the hard science. The provable science.

First, it is the strength and coordination that is necessary to actually jump higher. This has been proven. So what does that mean? Train and learn how to jump higher.

Learning how to jump higher means that you need to train your body to jump correctly. Just like training your jump shot, you should train your high jump. And without getting too detailed here, you need to aline your body in a way that gives you the perfect takeoff so you can use all of the muscles at the right time to line up.

Building the right muscles means that you actually have to work out. But this is where basketball shoes may actually help you to jump higher. I’ve started using the jump soles for my athletes to strengthen your calf muscles and your other jumping muscles. The best thing about the Jump Soles is that you can practice in them and they don’t cost that much. Definitely not $300.

So besides training correctly, the jump soles are the basketball shoes to help you jump higher. Otherwise, good luck with the Concept 1 banned shoes. As long as you aren’t going in the NBA, go for it.
