Jumping Higher – The Fundamentals
So you want to be jumping higher. Nothing is more fun than flying above everyone else and dunking over them or blocking them and scoring on them. Few things feel as good as jumping higher above the competition and putting them in their place. So why aren’t you jumping higher?
These are the simple reasons: you are always looking for something new. You want something flashy. You want something incredible.
None of those things are bad, but when you are trying to be jumping higher, then you have to realize that it isn’t rocket science. And also, if you are really focused, and thinking you are doing everything right, then maybe you need a jumping program to get yourself moving. Especially with the low prices available, you can be jumping higher in no time (with the right coaching).
But if you want to be jumping higher, then do these following fundamentals. And always write down your progress. Because you might not see how much you are gaining. I remember when I was playing in Europe, and it wasn’t until we had a dunking competition that I realized how much easier it was after playing hard, every single day for a month.
Jump Squats will build the core jumping muscles. Squat down like a typical squat, but don’t use any weight. When you reach the bottom of the squat (when your thighs are parallel with the ground), explode up and jump as high as you can.
Jump Rope is the basic level of jumping. When you only jump 3-5 inches off of the ground, you work your calves which are the start of your jump. Strengthening your calves will give you that explosive power that you can only with those muscles.
Box Jumps will train your muscles to jump as high as you can, every time. When you set up a box that forces you be jumping higher than before, then you will work those muscles more than if you were just doing a simple workout. So don’t slack, and work hard, every time.
With these three workouts, plus be jumping higher every chance you get, you will gain muscle and the explosive power that you need to be jumping higher every day. And remember, if you don’t see results and you have been doing this for some time, maybe you need your own personal coach. It doesn’t take much to be seeing real gains unless you aren’t doing something right, and you could easily be doing something wrong without knowing about it.
